A lucky scratch off lottery player from Rowan County wins a big jackpot worth of $1 million

A man won $1 million on a scratch-off ticket purchased at a Salisbury convenience store.

Ronald Atteberry of Spencer purchased a 50X The Cash ticket from Murphy Express on Freeland Drive.

After winning, Atteberry had a choice between receiving an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000.

Lottery officials say he chose the lump sum. After tax withholdings, Atteberry took home $425,012.

The 50X The Cash game debuted in February with eight top prizes of $1 million, five of which still remain to be claimed.

The lottery officials said that the winner has only 180 days from the day of the lottery draw to claim their winning prize money, if it remains unclaimed then it will be donated to a charity.
