A North Carolina online lottery player won $150K Powerball prize

According to the NC Education Lottery news release, Lawrence Whipple, of Cary, bought a Powerball ticket online and won a $150,000 prize. 

Whipple added the powerplay option for an extra $1 and luckily his $3 powerplay ticket matched four white ball numbers and the Red Powerball number to win the third-tier prize $50K. The winning prize tripled when the powerplay was drawn 3X. 

Whipple brought his $150,000 winning ticket for October 16 drawing through online play.

The odds of winning four white balls and the Red Powerball in a Powerball draw are 1 in 913,129.

Whipple visited the lottery headquarter in Raleigh on Monday to claim his winning prize. After required federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $106,138.

Now the estimated jackpot for next Powerball draw on Wednesday, October 27 will be $102 million.
