Orange County Retiree wins $2 million Mega Millions lottery prize

Mega Millions second-tier prize winning ticket sold in orange county

Paul Christensen of Orange country won $2 million Mega Millions second-tier prize from May 18 drawing. 

The Rhoadesville Retiree purchased the lucky winning ticket at BP Shorts Food Mart located at 24085 Constitution Highway in Unionville for May 18 Mega Millions drawing. 

Christensen used the Quick pick, allowing the computer to randomly select the numbers on his ticket. 

Mr. Paul and his wife looked at the Mega Millions ticket in his hand and when they saw that it matched five of six winning numbers, they couldn't believe that was real thing. 

"I looked at it, and it was real!" He later told the Virginia Lottery officials. 

Normally, when a Mega Millions lottery winning ticket match all five main numbers minus the megaball it wins the second-tier prize $1 million. But Mr. Christensen spent extra $1 to purchase the Megaplier option which doubled the prize to $2 million. 

"I'm pretty excited!" The lucky winner said while at the headquarter to claim prize.

The lucky Food Mart will receive $10,000 bonus commission from the Virginia Lottery for the the winning ticket. 

Mega Millions lottery draw takes place everyday Tuesday and Friday nights at 11 p.m. ET. 

The next Mega Millions draw will take place on Tuesday, 27 July. Tonight's estimated jackpot is $153 million up for grab.
