A scratch off lottery player from Mecklenburg scoops a big jackpot recently

A Mecklenburg County woman won $250,000 from a scratch-off. Kimberly Mahon of Matthews tested her luck on a $5 ticket from Stallings Superette on Potters Road.

She claimed her prize at lottery headquarters Wednesday and, after taxes, took home $178,751.

The winner has to reach the nearest lottery headquarters for further documentation formalities and for claiming their winning prize money, lottery officials said.

They also announced that the winner has only 180 days from the day of the lottery draw to claim the winning prize money.

The winner told the lottery officials that he will be going to celebrate his winnings with his family and friends after claiming the winning prize money.
