A blowout loss by Clemson's football team resulted in a lottery win for one Randolph County resident. Asheboro resident Jacob Strickland won $150,000 from a Powerball ticket. Strickland purchased the ticket after watching a recently televised football game.

"We were watching football with some friends and Clemson was getting beat terribly by Notre Dame,” Strickland said. Clemson faced Notre Dame at home and struggled to put points on the board until the final minutes in the fourth quarter.

"You get what you earn and we earned this tonight," said Clemson Head Coach Dabo Swinney during a post game interview. Clemson scored 14 points to Notre. “We were joking we should get lottery tickets because our luck couldn’t get any worse.

"Powerball is one of four lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery.
