Downtown Los Angeles Mini Market Sells Winning Powerball Ticket Worth $1.08 Billion
In downtown Los Angeles, a small neighborhood store called Las Palmitas Mini Market has made history by selling the winning ticket for the Powerball jackpot, valued at an astonishing $1.08 billion. This remarkable jackpot is now ranked as the sixth largest in the history of the United States and the third largest in the game's history.
The winning numbers for the drawing were 7, 10, 11, 13, 24 for the white balls and 24 for the red Powerball. The fortunate winner has the choice of receiving the full jackpot amount paid out over several years or opting for a lump sum of $558.1 million before taxes.
While the winner is not required to reveal their identity publicly, their name and the usage of the prize money will become part of the public records, as per the California Lottery regulations.
Maria Leticia Menjivar, the owner of Las Palmitas Mini Market, was overjoyed to have sold the lucky ticket and will be receiving a $1 million bonus from the lottery. A symbolic check was presented to Maria and her family, including her husband Navor Herrera, the store manager, while signs declaring "billionaire made here" were proudly displayed.
Looking ahead, Herrera expressed plans to expand the store and provide a wider selection of items and better service to the community. Despite its small size, the store has now become synonymous with good luck, as it stands in stark contrast to the neighboring Skid Row area, known for its homelessness crisis and hardships.
