Lottery Scam Preying on Older Americans: Jamaican National Pleads Guilty to Fraud Scheme

A disturbing scheme involving a Jamaican national, Antony Linton Stewart, has come to light, where he preyed on older Americans by deceiving them into believing they had won substantial lottery prizes.

Stewart, aged 39, utilized fraudulent phone calls to convince at least 10 individuals that they were entitled to millions in winnings or even a new car. To access their supposed rewards, he manipulated victims into paying fees and taxes, resulting in them sending hundreds of thousands of dollars through various means.

Stewart's elaborate con spanned from 2010 to August 2016, during which he employed aliases such as "James Carter" and "Robert Morgan" to gain victims' trust.

After extracting money from them, he continued to hound them with persistent demands for more funds. Shockingly, the victims' hard-earned money was never used for any legitimate winnings but instead pocketed by Stewart and his co-conspirators for personal gain.

The guilty plea brought forward by Stewart in connection with the conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud exposes the distressing reality of elder fraud schemes. These fraudulent activities, often originating from both within the United States and abroad, prey on vulnerable individuals, leading to substantial financial losses.

The guilty plea is a result of an investigation led by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, highlighting the collective effort to bring those responsible for such scams to justice.

Although the exact sum of money scammed from victims wasn't explicitly disclosed, it fell between $550,000 and $1,500,000, further emphasizing the magnitude of Stewart's deceitful operations.
