Massachusetts Players Win Big as Lucky for Life Nears Its Final Draw

With Lucky for Life winding down, Massachusetts players are getting one last burst of big wins before the game officially ends.

Big wins as the clock runs out

• A lucky ticket sold at Player’s Cafe in Hyde Park, Boston matched the first five numbers in Sunday’s February 1 drawing, scoring $25,000 a year for life.

• The winning numbers were 2, 6, 10, 22, 47 with Lucky Ball 17.

• On the same day, another player grabbed $100,000 in the Mass Cash draw with a ticket bought at Lowell Street Market in Peabody. The numbers were 2, 4, 5, 8, 34.

The end of an era

After 14 years, the multi-state Lucky for Life game—played across 23 lotteries—is set to wrap up.

• The final drawing will take place on February 21.

• Winners will still have one full year from the draw date to claim their prizes.

What’s coming next: Millionaire for Life

Starting February 22 at 11:15 p.m., a brand-new national game, Millionaire for Life, takes over with even bigger promises:

• $1 million a year for life (top prize)

• $100,000 a year for life (second-tier prize)

• 20-year guaranteed payouts, or a lump-sum option

• Odds of winning any prize: 1 in 8.47

• Odds of the top prize: 1 in 22.9 million

• Ticket price: $5

The new game expands to 33 participating lotteries, replacing both Lucky for Life and Cash4Life under one upgraded format.

What officials are saying

Massachusetts Lottery Executive Director Mark William Bracken said the change aims to combine the two games into a more modern product. While Massachusetts didn’t support the higher ticket price, officials say they’re excited to offer players a fresh chance at $1 million a year for life starting in 2026.
