Virginia man won Mega Millions jackpot worth $1 million

A lucky man from Virginia won Mega Millions jackpot worth $1 million while he was out of the country.

The winning ticket was sold at a mini-mart in Salem. The store will receive a bonus of $10,000 for selling the winning scratch-Off ticket  

The winning numbers were: 5-9-15-16-17. He said he selected his numbers using a combination of family birthdays and anniversaries.

The winner intends to pay bills and travel more with his winnings.

Mega Millions is an American multi-jurisdictional lottery game and it is offered in 45 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Mega Millions is drawn at 11 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday and Friday evenings, including holidays.
