Winning Powerball lottery ticket worth $50K sold in Silver Spring

According to the Maryland Lotter, a Washington, D.C. accountant’s miscalculation of his lottery ticket led to a delayed and exciting discovery of a $50,000 payday.

The loyal lottery player had purchased a $2 quick-pick Powerball ticket for the May 3 drawing at Giant #354, located at 1280 East-West Highway in Silver Spring.

Assuming he had only won $100, the 70-year-old man checked his ticket before work the next day.

When he saw the message to see the cashier, he was confused but headed to a local Lottery retailer to claim his prize.

It was there that the scanner confirmed that he had actually matched four white balls and the red Powerball, which earned him a third-tier, $50,000 prize.

Upon sharing his story with Lottery officials, the father and grandfather still couldn’t believe his miscalculation.

He plans to put his prize into his savings account and may also go on a vacation.
