$2 Billion Powerball Winner Buys Japanese-Inspired Altadena Home

Edwin Castro, the lucky winner of the $2 billion Powerball jackpot in November 2022, has expanded his real estate holdings with a new $4 million Japanese-inspired home in Altadena, California. The property, which is located just a few miles from the gas station where he purchased his life-changing ticket, boasts 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms over 4,361 square feet.

Built in 1953, the home is nestled among palm trees and offers unobstructed views of the San Gabriel Mountains. The U-shaped focal point of the house is a gorgeous courtyard that creates its own private oasis. It features a red floating Japanese roof and a tranquil pond, perfect for lounging and escaping the world.

The home also comes with several amenities such as a whole-house water filtration system, solar system with Tesla PowerWall batteries, art studio, den, and a soundproof movie theater. The outdoor area includes a saltwater pool, pond, patio, and off-street parking for more than a dozen cars.

This new acquisition is in addition to Castro's $25.5 million Hollywood Hills mansion, which he purchased earlier this month. The 13,578-square-foot home boasts 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms and overlooks the Sunset Strip. It is a "modern retreat" listed by luxury realtors The Agency and had an original asking price of $29.95 million.

Castro's new Altadena home was last on the market in 2010 for $1.1 million, making it a significant increase in value over the past decade. With its unique design and luxurious amenities, it's no wonder Castro was drawn to this stunning Japanese-inspired property.
