$1 million win for Mega Millions player

A convenience store in Round Rock sold the winning lottery ticket for a $1 million second-tier Mega Millions prize, with the winner coming forward three months later.

The same convenience store previously sold a winning ticket in December 2022. Sold on Jan. 3 at Luck Zone, the winning ticket was recently claimed by Austin Winners Club LLC, a Dallas-based lottery trust.

The use of a lottery trust allows winners to maintain anonymity in lotteries worth over $1 million.

Lottery winners have 180 days to claim their winnings, with unclaimed money going back to the state of Texas.

Per Texas Lottery, in order to win the Mega Millions, jackpot players must match all six numbers drawn including the Mega Ball.

Players matching fewer numbers may not win the jackpot but can still walk away winners.

The winner of the Jan. 3rd lottery matched all five white ball numbers drawn (25-29-33-41-44) but not the Mega Ball (18).
