A lucky woman gave birth to her daughter on the same day she scooped over £80,000 on the lottery. Brenda Gomez Hernandez went into labour on the same day the US Powerball draw took place, landing her with an incredible $100,000 (£81,412) win.

The 28-year-old matched numbers on four white balls and the Powerball to win $50,000 (£40,706) before the prize doubled when the 2X Power Play multiplier hit. After the required tax withholdings, she took home $65,015 (£52,904).

She collected her prize at the lottery from headquarters on November 30 after her remarkable double whammy. Brenda, who comes from Concord, North Carolina, USA, told lottery officials she bought her $3 (£2.4) Quick Pick ticket at the QuikTrip store on Warren C Coleman Boulevard.

On November 9, she first gave birth to a healthy baby girl before winning the large cash sum that evening.
