'I'm going to make the most of this win': Chatham retiree $100,000 richer after playing Encore

A Chatham retiree named Carlos Alves said he was “silent and shocked” when he checked his lottery ticket and found he’d won $100,000.

Carlos Alves tried his luck at the lottery for 30 years before it finally paid off when he said yes to Encore and matched the last six of seven numbers in exact order.

“I love playing LOTTO MAX when the jackpot is big,” said Alves while collecting his winnings. “I play my own numbers and always say yes to ENCORE!”

The winning ticket was purchased from Queen’s Variety & Laundromat on Queen Street, Chatham. The store will receive a bonus of $800 for selling the winning Scratch-Off ticket.

Alves said he plans to speak to a financial advisor to invest in the future.
