‘This will make a big difference for me’: Lucrative lightning strike for Kendal man.

Lightning struck Clarington’s Herbert Ward in May. And far from injuring him, it earned the Kendal resident $423,076.60.

Ward won the Lightning Lotto jackpot on May 30, after first thinking he had only scored a free play.

“When the clerk showed me the validation slip with my prize amount, it was unbelievable. This will make a big difference for me,” said the 71-year-old retiree.

Ward told OLG officials in Toronto he plans to share the win “with some people in his life who could really use it.”

“It will make a difference for them too,” he said.

The winning ticket was bought at Shell on King Avenue in Newcastle.
