Illinois Grocery Store Sells $5 Million Winning Lottery Ticket

The store will receive a $50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

In Savoy, Illinois, 150 miles south of Chicago, an unassuming grocery store has, unknowingly, played a hand in an individual's newfound fortune.

A recent NBC Chicago article brought to light that a winning $5 million "Million $$ Match" scratch-off lottery ticket had been sold at Schnuck's supermarket.

A stroke of luck for the lottery player, but also a small boon for the store, as they will receive a $50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

While the identity of the winner remains unknown, it is noteworthy that in 2023, more than 20 Illinois Lottery players have become millionaires after winning Instant Tickets.

The recent winning streak also includes a $3 million scratch-off ticket sold at a suburban liquor store, a $400,000 ticket in Wood Dale, and a $2 million ticket in Morris, according to Fox 32 Chicago.

A lottery spokesperson told NBC Chicago that although retailers are notified when a ticket no longer has a top prize, the removal process can take from 1 to 3 months, as the system has to handle millions of tickets.
