Iowa Lottery Headquarters Moving From Clive to Hoover Building
The Iowa Lottery is getting a new home.
Iowa Department of Revenue Director Mary Mosiman announced that the Lottery’s headquarters will move from Clive to the fifth floor of the Hoover Building at the state capitol complex. The relocation is expected to take place November 6 through November 11.
The move is part of Iowa’s broader government realignment, which placed the Iowa Lottery and Alcoholic Beverages Division under the Department of Revenue three years ago. While the Lottery is leaving Clive, the Alcoholic Beverages Division will remain in Ankeny.
What Players Should Know
Lottery officials say they’ll share plenty of updates to help players navigate the new location, including:
- Where to claim winning tickets
- Where to park
- How to find the new Lottery office
- What to expect during the transition
Officials also expect the move to create some cost savings and operational efficiencies, while improving security around the Lottery’s gaming and revenue operations.
Lottery CEO Steve Waymire said the Hoover Building is being renovated to accommodate the agency. The new space will feature updated furniture, a sales window and a redesigned area to make it easier for players to find the Lottery office.
One of the biggest challenges will be safely moving the Lottery’s computer gaming system. Waymire said security will be a top priority during the transition.
The Lottery originally purchased its Clive headquarters for $5.35 million in 2014. With additional costs for a generator and security upgrades, the total investment reached about $7 million.
The Lottery moved to Clive after leaving its former Grand Avenue location in Des Moines. That building was later purchased by the Des Moines School District for $1.6 million and used as its administrative headquarters before the district eventually moved out.
The new Lottery headquarters will share the Hoover Building with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, which moved there in 2025 after the Wallace Building was demolished.
