A simple weekend ritual turned into a $100,000 surprise for a West Des Moines woman.

Marjory Rittman, 64, says she was unwinding on Saturday night with one of her favorite scratch-offs — the “$100,000 Mega Crossword” — when she uncovered the big win. What makes it even more meaningful? She and her late husband, Dale, used to play crossword scratch games together every weekend before he passed in March.

“It felt surreal,” she said while claiming her prize on Monday. “Almost like a little sign — maybe a gift from him.”
