A 74-year-old man from Hillsdale County, Michigan, had an unexpected stroke of luck when he discovered he had misread his $5 Lucky No. 13 instant game ticket.

Initially believing he had won $500, he put on his glasses and realized the actual prize was a staggering $500,000. Overwhelmed by the unexpected windfall, he had his wife double-check the ticket before sharing the exciting news with their family.

The anonymous winner purchased the ticket at the Sand Lake Party Store in Hillsdale. He recounted buying more tickets with a $40 winning ticket and scratching them in his car. The Lucky No. 13 ticket turned out to be the last one he scratched, leading to his life-changing discovery. 

With his newfound wealth, he plans to pay bills and make improvements to his home.
