A lucky man from North Carolina named Eveling Tercero Escalante won a whopping sum of $1 million playing North Carolina Education Lottery's Spectacular Riches game.

The winning ticket was purchased from the Kim’s Mart on West Webb Avenue in Burlington. The store will receive a bonus of $10,000 for selling the winning ticket.

The winner recently claimed his winning amount from the lottery headquarters and took home a lump-sum payment of $600,000 after state taxes.

North Carolina has one of the United States' youngest lottery systems, having been enacted in 2005. The revenue distributions are as follows: 51% was paid out in prizes, 38% was transferred into the education fund, 7% was paid to the retailers who sold lottery tickets, and 4% went to general lottery expenses.

The Spectacular Riches game debuted in October 2021 with eight $1 million top prizes and 20 $100,000 prizes.
