Kent County woman won $100,000 after playing Powerball every week

Christina Newman will remember her trip to Hawaii after she won $100,000 playing Powerball lottery recently.

Newman, 61, of Lowell, matched the first four of the five white ball numbers and the Red Powerball number in the March 19 Powerball drawing to win the third-tier prize worth $50,000. She added the powerplay option on her ticket which doubled her winnings to $100K.

"I usually play Powerball every week. My husband took the ticket to the store to check it and a slip printed out saying we must file a claim," Newman said.

She said that the employee thought something was wrong with the machine since it would not validate, so her husband took the ticket back home and looked up the numbers online.

"When I saw we'd won $100K, we're shocked. It was hard to wrap our heads around." She explained.

The lucky woman purchased her winning ticket at the Marathon Gas Station, located at 2001 West Main Street in Lowell. Newman said she plans on taking her husband to Hawaii and save the remainder.
