Raleigh Woman Wins $100,000 Powerball Prize in Remarkable Stroke of Luck

Valerie Fegans, a resident of Raleigh, North Carolina, had an incredible stroke of luck this week as she won $100,000 playing Powerball.

Her winning ticket was a $3 Power Play ticket that she purchased virtually through the state's "Online Play" program.

Initially, she was set to receive $50,000 after matching numbers on four white balls and the red Powerball.

However, her prize doubled to $100,000 when the 2X multiplier was applied.

After federal and state taxes were deducted, Fegans took home approximately $71,000.

In North Carolina, Powerball drawings take place three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

The current jackpot for this Saturday's Powerball is an impressive $124 million, or $62.8 million in cash. Nevertheless, the odds of winning a Powerball jackpot remain quite steep at 1 in 292 million.
