Scots builder plots to buy new digger after wife wins share of £1m jackpot

Luck struck the Main household in Tain, Easter Ross, when Angela Main, 55, won a life-changing £166,666 in the People's Postcode Lottery. Angela and her husband Gordon, 58, have been living in their Highland home for over three decades, and this unexpected windfall has set their hearts racing with dreams and possibilities.

"It's crazy! I didn't think for one second I'd win that much," Angela exclaimed, still in disbelief. "I'll be able to get the kitchen that I want now," she added, excitedly envisioning the dream kitchen she had been longing for.

Gordon, however, had a different idea in mind. As a builder himself, he has a passion for his work and a love for construction machinery. "It's just incredible – it's a lifetime's worth of money. It'll be a digger for me, not a kitchen," he jokingly declared. "I'll always want more diggers, and there's always another type of digger that I'd like to buy."

Despite Gordon's playful banter, he assured Angela that her dream kitchen would take priority. "I have to admit Angela's kitchen has been a long time coming, so that'll come first," he admitted. "The garden is a bit of a bùrach [mess] at the moment because it's sitting waiting to be finished."

While indulging in their personal desires, the Mains are also determined to help their children, Lynsey and Alistair, make their way onto the property ladder. With the soaring prices in Glasgow, where Lynsey resides, it has become increasingly challenging for young adults to afford their own homes. "We'd love to help get the kids on the property ladder," Angela shared.

As they plan for the future, the family also intends to enjoy the fruits of their unexpected fortune. A trip to New York is on their agenda, allowing them to create unforgettable memories together.
