Gas station in tiny Illinois town sells winning $3M scratch-off lotto ticket

In the quiet town of Woodhull, Illinois, a remarkable event has stirred up excitement among its 811 residents. A fortunate individual has just clinched a staggering $3 million prize with a scratch-off Instant lotto ticket, aptly named "200X Payout." The winning ticket was sold at a BP gas station located at 111 NW 5th Street in Woodhull, a town situated about 30 miles southeast of Moline and 65 miles northwest of Peoria.

Woodhull's BP store manager, Jennifer Damer, expressed her surprise at the news, saying, "It's so surprising to me that our local, little gas station sold a ticket that won such a big prize." She added, "We are the go-to stop for many townfolk, including farmers who live nearby and truck drivers passing through."

As the news of this remarkable win spreads throughout the small town, the identity of the lucky winner remains a mystery. Damer shared, "Lately, all anyone can talk about is the $3 million winning lottery ticket. Everyone in our tiny town is trying to figure out who the lucky winner is."

The gas station, which played a crucial role in this life-changing moment, will receive a one percent bonus of the prize amount, totaling $30,000. BP owner Phillip Edat has plans to use part of this bonus for store improvements. He also intends to share the bonus with his seven loyal and dedicated employees.

The Illinois Lottery has been making headlines in 2023 with more than 50 million winning Instant Lotto tickets sold. The good fortune has touched various Chicago suburbs, including Mount Prospect, Wood Dale, Morris, and Carpentersville, where substantial prizes were won. This lottery success comes despite previous reports about the continued sale of Instant Games even after top prizes had been claimed.

The Illinois Lottery is dedicated to enhancing the process and ensuring a smoother experience for both players and retailers as they navigate the complexities of ticket removal and notification once top prizes are claimed.
