Couple thought they won $360 on lottery ticket... they actually won $360,000

LYNNWOOD, Wash.- A Lynnwood, Washington couple learned this lesson recently when they thought they won a few hundred dollars.

They actually won a few hundred thousand dollars.

The couple purchased a winning HIT 5 ticket in July and thought they won $360. The husband went to their local Fred Meyer to cash out the ticket since the store cashes out winning tickets up to $600.

However, the cashier said they could not cash the ticket, because it was worth $360,000.

The man apparently had a shocked expression, according to a release, so the employee asked if he needed to sit down.

“No, I need to go cash this,” the man exclaimed before rushing out to call his wife and head to the lottery’s regional office in Everett, Wash.

The couple signed a $10,000 check to their son and daughter-in-law, who are expecting their first child soon. The rest of their winnings is heading to savings to help when retirement comes.
