Unclaimed $1 Million Powerball Prize in Kentucky Benefits Education

A winning Powerball lottery ticket worth $1 million sold in Kentucky has expired without anyone claiming the prize. The Kentucky Lottery announced that the ticket, purchased on July 19 in Henry County at the Pilot Travel Center on Pendleton Road, went unclaimed by its expiration date on January 15. Due to the MLK Jr. Day holiday, the ticket holder had until 5 p.m. on January 12 to come forward, but no one did.

As a result, the $1 million will now be transferred to Kentucky's Unclaimed Prize Fund and, ultimately, support the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship. Despite a six-month wait for the ticket owner to step forward, they failed to do so.

Kentucky Lottery president Mary Harville expressed disappointment but also highlighted the positive outcome of returning the unclaimed funds to education to fund college scholarships and grants for Kentucky students and their families. The winning ticket matched the first five white balls (7-10-11-13-24), earning the secondary prize of $1 million, but it did not match the Powerball, which was 24.
